CaliKáli Latin Festival
History

How was
CaliKáli born?

The idea for the CaliKáli Latin Festival was born in 2025. For years, we organized the Mirador Jamboree, gathering our regular travelers for a long weekend somewhere in the country to share travel stories, listen to music, hike, and enjoy a fair amount of rum.

Then came the thought: what if we made all this accessible to a larger audience? Let the music not just come from speakers, but have live concerts. Let's not drink rum from water glasses, but do it properly and taste fine spirits. Let's not just talk about travels, but show them to others through presentations.

Thus, CaliKáli Latin Fest was born, with the generous support of the Szentbékkálla Municipality.

"Whether there will be a second, third, or fourth one depends only on you!"
✦

We bring our love for Latin culture and Latin American countries, the fitting programs, lectures, and concerts — but you should know that we have almost zero experience in event organizing, so don't expect a Sziget Festival!

There will be Latin music concerts, lots of dancing, interesting lectures and exhibitions, film screenings, a gastro yard, and rum tasting, and who knows what else we'll think of by the opening day.

One thing is for sure: if you come, the atmosphere will be great.

Performers

Los Koyotes

Los Koyotes

Los Koyotes primarily plays traditional and modern Mexican music, blending Latin American rhythms, various musical genres, and the rich heritage of Mexican culture. Their music draws heavily on mariachi traditions while incorporating numerous other styles: neo-mariachi, gypsy-cumbia, and corrido-salsa. The band's live concerts are full of energy, inviting the audience to dance and bringing an authentic Mexican festive atmosphere to the stage. The band frequently performs at various cultural festivals, events, and clubs, offering a special experience even for those encountering Mexican music for the first time. Their goal is to bring an authentic Mexican sound to Hungary and to promote Mexican music and culture.

Los Andinos

Los Andinos

The Los Andinos ensemble was formed in the spring of 1982 in Székesfehérvár. Their name and musical mission are inspired by the rich and diverse folk music traditions of the peoples of the Central Andes in South America, which they have been collecting, researching, and authentically performing for more than four decades. Since 1989, they have deepened their knowledge through regular field research trips to Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Their work has been supported by masters such as Mario Godoy Aguirre, an Ecuadorian composer and folk music researcher, alongside their musician friends Enrique (Kike) Pinto in Peru and Esteban Choque Orozco in Bolivia. By visiting village festivals, they have studied local customs, traditional costumes, performance styles, and instrument making, allowing their programs to feature melodies they have collected themselves. One of the highlights of their career was a six-month study trip in 1997, during which the band gave 25 concerts in Ecuador and 12 in Peru. Los Andinos has remained active ever since, dedicated to authentically conveying the values of Central Andean folk music. Their performance takes the audience on a journey from the mountains of Potosí in Bolivia to the valleys of Cuzco in Peru, and onward to the Chimborazo and Imbabura volcanoes in Ecuador, reviving songs that evoke the traditions and customs of the past.

La Movida Cuba

La Movida Cuba

Every performance delivers that sizzling, vibrant energy you can only experience through Cuban music. Catchy tunes that get under your skin guarantee a fantastic atmosphere, getting everyone out of their seats and onto the dance floor. La Movida Cuba brings you salsa, bachata, mambo, rumba, merengue, reggaeton, and cha-cha-cha, as well as the most famous hits from Latin America — often infused with the band's unique flair and spice. Guests can immerse themselves in a tropical Cuban and Latin American vibe, filled with the region's signature passion and joy for life.

Latin Lélek

Latin Lélek

The Latin Lélek musical evening brings together two outstanding artists: bass-baritone Manuel B. Camino and pianist Sebastián Ramírez, who perform a selection of emotionally rich and passionate pieces from the Latin world. In their interpretation, the songs sound both delicate and elementally powerful, uniting the musical spirits of Mexico, Argentina, and Spain.

Volver La Vida

Volver La Vida

At the Volver La Vida concert, the musical worlds of four exceptional artists meet in Szentbékkálla: the sensitive cello of Anita Miskolczi, the versatile and delicate vocals of Zsuzsanna Bojta, the passionate Mexican bass-baritone of Manuel B. Camino, and the lyrical, virtuoso piano of Sebastián Ramírez together evoke the rich, emotive world of Latin music. The ensemble’s program transports the listener from South America to Spain with passion, freedom, and vibrant rhythms.

Mario Ochoa & Mai Rumba

Mario Ochoa & Mai Rumba

Mario Ochoa & Mai Rumba is a professional Latin band dedicated to creating engaging, high-quality musical experiences. Besides their own original recordings available on mainstream music platforms, their repertoire spans a wide range of Latin genres, including salsa, bachata, merengue, cumbia, bolero, and bossa nova, all performed with a polished and captivating style. Their versatile sound makes them equally at home on festival stages and at elegant private events. The band takes pride in delivering performances that enhance the atmosphere and leave a lasting impression on their audiences. Over the years, they have appeared at notable events such as the "Garden Party na korze" festival in Trnava, where they have performed for seven consecutive years — as well as Hungary's Sziget Festival and GERE Jazz Festival, building a strong reputation across the region.

Unicumbia

Unicumbia

Unicumbia: The explosive fusion where the rhythm of cumbia meets the Hungarian soul. From intoxication to dance, from dance to ritual; the Latin flavor in the heart of Hungary. Ay mamá, la cumbia me está llamando!

Friday
15:00-16:00
Chavín Drugs and Their Religious Aspects (stand-up archaeology)
Péter Antalffy, historian
Venue: Library
Historian Péter Antalffy speaks in a humorous way about the religious center of Chavín, a vanished civilization that reigned between 900-200 BC, and the drug-based trance that made the city the leading city of the Peruvian Andes 1,500 years before the Incas.

Péter Antalffy is a researcher at the Rubicon Institute, opener and leader of numerous museum exhibitions and tours. He is the creator of stand-up archaeology, which he invented to bring archaeology and history closer to people.
15:00-16:00
When You Don't Arrive for Just Two Weeks: Life and Integration in Colombia
András Mátai, traveler
Venue: Káli Kert
András Mátai is a traveler and Wanderwell tour guide who fell in love with Colombia (understandably) and eventually moved there. He will talk about life and integration into what is perhaps the most festive society on Earth, what he would bring back to Hungary, and what gives him the chills. Many consider Colombia the most beautiful and livable country on Earth, but is it really so? If you are generally interested in Colombia, come and ask András your questions.
16:00-17:00
Under the Spell of Emeralds
Endre Nagy
Venue: Káli Kert
Hungary's first emerald exhibition will be at CaliKáli! Endre Nagy, founder of Mirador Adventures and creator of CaliKáli, presents his own collection supplemented by a few guests, after which you can learn about the history and everyday life of Colombian emerald mines and the bloody decade of the emerald war in a lecture.
Saturday
10:00-11:00
From Nicaragua to the Guyanas: A Year in Latin America with a Child
Tímea Okos and Zoltán Markó
Venue: Library
A lecture by travel duo Tímea Okos and Zoltán Markó (Instagram: Világjárócsalád) on how to travel in Latin America as a backpacker with a child for a year. They talk about the challenges of organization and travel, sharing their experiences with those planning a similar trip. What to look out for, what to prepare for in advance, and what not to worry about at all because it will resolve itself anyway. All this is made enjoyable with a colorful, pictorial presentation.
11:00-12:00
János Móricz and the Tayos Cave: Can the Legends be Cleared?
Zoltán Varga, geologist
Venue: Library
A lecture by geologist Zoltán Varga, president of the János Móricz Cultural Society, follows in the footsteps of one of Amazonia's greatest mysteries, the golden library of the Tayos Cave. What did János Móricz discover, are there really gold plates with runic inscriptions deep in the earth, and are there Hungarian-speaking Indians in Ecuador? Much will be revealed, but even more will remain in the impenetrable fog of mysticism.
15:30-16:30
The Soul of Buenos Aires: Argentine Tango
Katalin Dillmont
Venue: Káli Kert
Katalin Dillmont is a recognized tango dancer in Hungary. For her, tango is not simply a dance, but a language, a creed, a style. The roots of perhaps the most sensual dance in the world go beyond Buenos Aires, helping entire generations experience their emotions and interpret female and male relationships. Talking to Kati about dance is like talking to Einstein about the theory of relativity: new dimensions open up. After the lecture, of course, a tango workshop in Káli Kert!
12:00-13:00
South America on Two Wheels
Sándor Mesits
Venue: Library
Sándor Mesits, owner of the Káli Kert Guesthouse, has two great loves: bicycles and South America. Sándor began his journey two years ago in Ushuaia and cycled to Bogotá in two separate trips. What is South America like on two wheels? You can find out from Sanyi! Awesome landscapes and even more awesome stories from Ruta 40 through the Panamericana to the trans-Andean passes.
13:00-14:00
The Real Discoverers of America in the Light of Cultural and Archaeological Evidence, or Was it Really Columbus Who Discovered America?
Zoltán Varga
Venue: Library
Zoltán Varga's second lecture recalls the pre-Spanish period of America. There is numerous cultural and archaeological evidence that America was not discovered by Christopher Columbus. We know about the Vikings, but is it possible that discoverers from the Mediterranean region arrived even before them? An eye-opening lecture on the omitted pages of history books.
13:00-14:00
Judit Berg and Her Muse: South America
Judit Berg
Venue: Káli Kert
Storywriter Judit Berg talks about what South America means to her and how the continent appears in her works. She tells about the influences that prompted her to write Liana, the story of child survivors of a plane crash in the Colombian rainforest. After the conversation, Judit will also sign books.
14:00-15:00
Moche Sexual Representations (stand-up archaeology)
Péter Antalffy, historian
Venue: Library
Péter Antalffy's second lecture provides insight into the culture of the Peruvian coast through the sexual representations of the Moche people. His stand-up archaeology lecture approaches archaeology in a funny way, bringing a vanished civilization thought to be mystical closer to people.
14:00-15:00
What is the Life of a South American Consul Like?
Niki Kanazirev
Venue: Káli Kert
Niki Kanazirev, former consul to Uruguay, talks about what a consul does in South America. Niki is connected to the continent in a thousand ways; she not only traveled around it but also "officially" served from Colombia to Argentina, finally ending up in Montevideo, where she managed the path of Hungarians in perhaps the most boring country in South America in cooperation with the embassy in Buenos Aires. Ask freely, Niki will answer everything.
Sunday
10:00-11:00
What did Rumini and the two little dinos see in South America?
Judit Berg
Venue: Káli Kert
Judit Berg's main profile is children's literature, and she presents perhaps its two most famous adventurers to the smallest festival-goers. What did Rumini see in South America? And what were the two little dinos looking for in Venezuela and Bolivia? If you are interested in jungle stories and the pirate mouse's logbook, come and talk to Judit, who might even sign your favorite book at the end.
11:00-12:00
Spiral World: Worldview of South America's Ancient Peoples
Endre Nagy
Venue: Library
Endre Nagy has been traveling Central and South America with a backpack for 20 years, during which time he managed to immerse himself in the legend and belief world of Indian communities with ancient roots. How do the ancient cave paintings and petroglyphs of Amazonia connect to today's shamanism, what does ayahuasca really mean, and what do we Hungarians have to do with all this? A mystical journey on a spatial spiral.
11:00-12:00
Costa Rica's Backyard, or What it's Like to Live in a Tropical Eden
János Csernoch
Venue: Káli Kert
János Csernoch has been living a dual life for over twenty years. He spends his summers in Óbudavár in the Nivegy Valley, but his winters in Costa Rica. Initially, he made a living from tour guiding, today he deals with cigars and runs a guesthouse on the Caribbean coast. But is life in Costa Rica really as idyllic as it seems? What are the downsides of tropical existence, what should one prepare for when deciding to move? Ask your questions to János, who will be happy to show you around the backyard of Eden.
13:00-14:00
Capoeira, the Struggle Hidden in Dance
Péter Marosi
Venue: Káli Kert
Capoeira: dance or fight, or can it be both at the same time?
The lecture will cover the development of capoeira, why it became the way it is, and how it supports individuals and communities.
How it shapes the perspective of the European mind in everyday life.
13:00-14:30
My Love: Colombia
Péter Lendvai
Venue: Library
Péter Lendvai first visited Colombia in 2022. He knew nothing about the country and didn't speak Spanish. He was so captivated by the country that he returned six times in the last four years and even learned to speak Spanish fluently. The magic of the Andes, the paramo, the colonial small villages is one thing; what really made him embrace this country is its human side. Peti presents this great country based on his socio-photos, spiced up with plenty of absurd traveler stories.
14:00-15:30
The Geopolitical Role of Andean Mining Countries
Endre Nagy
Venue: Káli Kert
You can talk to Endre Nagy about the geopolitical role of South American mining countries in the light of this and last year's elections. Oil, lithium, copper, and rare earth metals are what define everyday life not only in South America but also in Hungary. What will happen to Bolivia after Evo Morales and where will Venezuela shift after the liquidation of Maduro? Peru and Chile on the path of Americanization, Ecuador and Colombia in the shadow of renewed drug and guerrilla wars.

Dances & Street Party

No Latin cultural festival is complete without Latin dances. Our partners are the KITango Dance Studio, the Salsa Días Brillantes Dance School, and the Abadá Capoeira group, who await festival-goers with performances and workshops.

The street party is animated by dance schools — come and learn the steps!
Salsa Días Brillantes

Salsa Días Brillantes

The Salsa Días Brillantes dance school comes from Keszthely, where salsa has been present in the city's life for many years in the form of various dance clubs. A dance community of 60-80 people who dance, demonstrate, and teach Cuban salsa and bachata to lovers of Latin dances. At CaliKáli, you can join them in the form of workshops. Not just for beginners, but for advanced dancers too!

KITango Budapest

KITango Budapest

Katalin Dillmont and Béla Barabás, founders and leaders of the KITango Budapest dance school, have been teaching, practicing, and promoting Argentine tango in Hungary for nearly twenty years. Through their work, they convey Argentine culture, music, and traditions while building an open and inspiring community. For years, they were performing artists at the National Dance Theatre and soloists at the Argentine Tango Dance Theatre, and their professional work was recognized with a Hungarian championship title in 2026. At the Calikáli Festival, they will bring a taste of this rich and diverse world to the audience during their joint performance with Volver La Vida. During the day, they will hold workshops for those who have been enchanted by tango.

ABADÁ-Capoeira

ABADÁ-Capoeira

The ABADÁ-Capoeira group was founded in 1988 in Rio de Janeiro by Mestre Camisa, a student of the legendary Mestre Bimba. It aims to create a new, contemporary capoeira by combining elements of the two main styles of capoeira: Regional, created by Mestre Bimba, and Angola, which deeply preserves the ancient traditions of capoeira. Its essence lies in constantly striving for renewal and development while preserving traditions.

Today, the group has grown into the world's largest capoeira organization, present on all five continents in more than a hundred countries with over 50,000 members. ABADÁ-Capoeira has been active in Hungary since 2008, and they will also demonstrate the basic movements of this Brazilian martial art and dance form at CaliKáli in the form of workshops.

The barn next to the library functions as an exhibition venue: Endre Nagy's ethnographic exhibition will be on display. The emerald exhibition will be set up in the Káli Kert.

The exhibition will be opened by Endre Nagy on Friday, July 10, at 4:00 PM, during which he will talk about his personal experiences in the mines. The exhibition will be available on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Rum Tastings

The rum tasting is only available for ticket or 3-day pass holders for the given day.

Introduction to the World of Rums

Introduction to the World of Rums

During the tasting, you will taste five mid-range table rums from Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean. The 12-year-old Abuelo is a popular Panamanian item, a perfect introduction to the world of quality rums. From here, there is a strong quality step to the 15-year-old El Dorado, which offers an insight into the sugarcane plantations of Guyana. With Appleton, we open towards the Caribbean Islands. Its 15-year-old item is a divisive creation, but undoubtedly essential. The Punta Cana XOX is a 25-year-old Dominican dessert rum for those with a sweet tooth, for which the equally Dominican Brugal Leyenda item is a perfect prelude, opening the door to the world of top-quality rums.

The price of the 75-minute tasting is HUF 15,000/person, during which 3 cl of each item is measured out, while the audience is entertained with rum stories.

Saturday 13:30-14:30
Sunday 12:00-13:00

Rum Selection for Advanced

Rum Selection for Advanced

Breaking away from the world of table rums, you can taste five quality items with us. The 18-year-old Flor de Cana, which counts as an entry-level, is an alcoholic, sometimes tart top-category table rum for those who do not require tricks. Much more characteristic will be the Tawny Cask maturation of the Abuelo XV series, which kicks the door down with its deep sweetish taste. Dos Maderas Luxus is the odd one out in our tasting, as after ten years of Caribbean oak maturation, it is further refined in sherry casks in Spain. The El Dorado Versailles item is one of the most exciting rums in the world with its smoky, sometimes chocolatey, other times orangey or just salty aftertaste, whose peculiarity is that it is distilled not in copper, but in 250-year-old wooden stills. And how else would we close the premium rums than with a Colombian Dictador essence, which is made with a secret process, provided with the rum master's own signature.

The price of the 75-minute tasting is HUF 28,000/person, during which 3 cl of each item is measured out, while you can get to know the distillation processes and history of premium rums and essences.

Friday 16:30-17:30
Saturday 14:30-15:30
